A hotel close to the Petite France district in Strasbourg

The Petite France, 350 meters (383 Yards) away from your hotel in Strasbourg, is the part where to feel the atmosphere of the old town: Old half-timbered houses, « Wynstubs », river along which you will enjoy a little walk between your hotel and the Cathedral Gothic masterpiece of the Rhine Valley.

The Petite France, directly close to your hotel in Strasbourg

The old tanners district, called la Petite France is very famous for its half-timbered houses with big garrets where the leather used to be dried. The name of the district was conferred by the former inhabitants not for architectural reasons, but because of the Syphillis disease which was treated in the close by hospital. Many “wynstubs” (small typical restaurants selling wine of the region) were and still are the right place for a small break with local specialties and a glass of wine. You will be able to try dishes with unpronounceable names, as Biebeleskäs (quark with onions and fresh herbs, served wish sauted potatoes), Grumbeerekiechle (potatoes’cake, usually served with salad), Waedele (hock), the traditional Alsatian Choucroute (sauerkraut) or the Baeckeoffe (potatoes with 3 different meats, baked in the oven with white wine). After a glass of Muscat (white Alsatian wine usually taken as an aperitif) you will enjoy these meals with a nice glass of local wine (Pinot Blanc, Sylvaner, Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris, Gewürztraminer, Riesling), unless you prefer to taste the only Alsatian wine made out of several grapes the Edelzwicker.
